After the release and success of Penguin Bloom, author Bradley Trevor Greive was contacted by multiple people who thought he should write their story next. He ignored all of them but one: Caroline Breure. Caroline was on holiday in Spain, safely crossing a street on a typically sun-soaked Barcelona morning, when she was hit by a speeding police car that was running silent. No siren, no warning. She was hurled 43 feet, headfirst, into a concrete gutter.

The paramedics couldn’t stabilise her at the scene. Everyone present thought she was dead, or minutes from death. Against all odds Caroline survived but she suffered horrific physical damage. Her greatest injury, however, was not her broken body, but a broken mind. Traumatic brain injury left her struggling to recall anything about herself before the accident.

Over the following two years, as she fought to reclaim her sense of self, Caroline discovered that her former life was not at all as she’d believed. Her home was not her home, her boyfriend was not her boyfriend, and she was not at all who she thought she was. Initially Greive told Caroline he wasn’t taking on any new projects, but he knew this was a story that needed to be told. So it became the next project from one of Australia’s favourite storytellers, a book that Grieve’s fans will flock to as they look to be moved and inspired as they have always been by his books.
